LG to take on the Note8 with a new flagship smartphone next month

As we are going deeper into the second half of the year, LG Mobile will be launching a new phablet that will take on the upcoming flagships that will be announced in a couple of months time. This would include the usual big contenders like the Samsung Galaxy Note8 and the iPhone 7s/iPhone 8.

Invites for LG’s upcoming launch have gone out and it is clear that this would be their upcoming LG V30 flagship smartphone.

The LG V30 launch is happening in Berlin on 31 August 2017 which is a day before IFA 2017. A visible V shape can be seen on the invite and you’ll notice that it has rounded corners on all ends which is an indication of LG’s Full Vision display. This allows the device to have a larger screen without the extra girth because of its taller 18:9 screen aspect ratio.

In terms of appearance, expect it to look like a bigger LG G6. Instead of a 5.7-incher, the new flagship phablet could sport a larger 6.0″ screen. Serial leakster OnLeaks and @MySmartPrice have released a 360 render of the LG V30 and it appears to retain a dual-camera system along with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.

Unlike the current LG V20, the new V30 might not have a removable battery but on the flip side, it should come with an IP68 dust and water resistance like its current LG G6.

In terms of specs, the V30 is expected to run on a more updated Snapdragon 835 processor with at least 4GB of RAM. Another rumour suggests that the LG V30 might use OLED instead of LCD this time round. Since the screen is taller, LG might finally drop the secondary display that came with the V10 and V20.

Too bad the V30 won’t be the Project Joan slider phone that was shared by @evleaks a few months back. That design came with a secondary display on the bottom portion which can turn into a mini ticker display when the phone is closed.
