The Redmi Note 4 is the undisputed best value for money smartphone you can get for less than RM1,000. It’s always the phone that people compare to each time a new mid-range smartphone is launched in Malaysia.
If you’re looking for another alternative, the Huawei Nova Plus that was announced last year is getting a massive price cut. It has similar specs as the Redmi Note 4 and it comes with a better camera.
Originally priced at RM1,499, the Nova Plus is now slashed to RM999 at some retailers. It gets a 5.5″ Full HD IPS display with 2.5D glass on a metal unibody design. Under the hood, it runs on a 14nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor with 3GB of RAM along with 32GB of storage that’s expandable via microSD.
For imaging, the Nova Plus stands out for having a 16MP main camera with OIS and it shoots video in 4K. Over at the front, it sports an 8MP selfie camera that’s assisted by Beauty Skin 3.0 and Beauty Make-up 2.0 software enhancements. Also included is a rear-mounted 3D fingerprint sensor that’s similar to the Huawei P9/P9 Plus series.
Juicing up the Nova Plus is a 3,340mAh battery that charges via USB Type-C. Out of the box, it runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with EMUI 4.1 skin on top. The Nova Plus is a dual-SIM device that uses a hybrid SIM tray design which accepts either a nano-SIM or a microSD card on its second slot.
For RM999, this is definitely a better buy than the Huawei Y7 Prime. If you’re interested, you can find the Nova Plus at RM999 on Lazada or DirectD.
