The Moto G series is Motorola’s popular budget lineup and it’s already in its 5th generation with the Moto G5 Plus. The G5 Plus was first announced during MWC 2017 and now it has finally arrived in Malaysia.
To recap, the Moto G5 Plus features a 5.2″ Full HD IPS display and it is powered by a frugal 14nm 2.0GHz Snapdragon 625 processor. It is mated with 4GB of RAM and comes with 32GB of onboard storage that’s expandable via microSD.
To stand out from the rest, Lenovo says that the Moto G5 Plus has the most advanced camera in its class. The rear gets a 12MP camera with dual auto-focus pixels which can lock onto your subject up to 60% faster than its previous model. The bigger f/1.7 aperture also allows more light to come in, for better low light performance and it’s also capable of recording 4K videos. Over at the front, it gets a 5MP f/2.2 selfie shooter.
You also get a fingerprint sensor in front and the earpiece also doubles up as a front-facing loud speaker. Powering the G5 Plus is a 3,000mAh battery which supports Moto’s TurboPower fast charging. A 15-minute charge claims to provide 6 hours of battery life. Out of the box, it runs on Android Nougat and it supports Moto’s action gestures like “chop chop” for torch light and a quick twist to launch the camera. It’s also a dual SIM device (dedicated dual Nano SIM + microSD slots) and it has NFC support for mobile payments.
Compared to the Moto M that’s priced at RM1,199, the G5 Plus has a better camera and internal hardware. However, the Moto M still gets a better full metal unibody exterior, a larger 5.5″ screen and Dolby Atmos-enhanced loudspeaker. So far there’s no word if the smaller 5″ Moto G5 powered by an entry-level Snapdragon 430 processor is coming to Malaysia.
The Moto G5 Plus is officially priced at RM1,299 and as pre-order promotion, Lenovo is providing extra freebies worth RM298. This includes a one-year extended warranty, original Moto flip case and screen protector. After the pre-order, each Moto G5 Plus will come with a Moto flip case and screen protector worth RM99.
It is available now on pre-order exclusively on Lazada Malaysia and you can have it in either Grey or Gold colour. Pre-order ends on 4 June and delivery will start on 5 June onwards.
