Here’s a new BlackBerry for the masses

Just recently, there had been a few live images seen online allegedly BlackBerry’s new phone, codenamed BBC100-1. It so happens that this device is going to be called the Blackberry Aurora and will be available exclusively in Indonesia.

What’s more is, there are reports that a number of upcoming Blackberry devices would have its hardware designed by PT BB Merah Putih instead of TCL.

The Aurora has been certified in Indonesia and could come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 chipset paired with 4GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, 5.5-inch HD display, and a 3,000 mAh battery.

BlackBerry also had launched the KEYone at MWC 2017, and it is the last device to be designed by BlackBerry themselves. TCL is licensed to manufacture BlackBerry devices while BlackBerry itself could focus on software and services. Apart from TCL, BlackBerry has partnered with Optiemus for local manufacturing in India and PT BlackBerry Merah Putih in Indonesia.

Judging by the specs, this new device looks like an affordable BlackBerry Android device that delivers BlackBerry’s security features at a lower price point. Since this is licensed for Indonesia, it is unlikely that it would be sold outside of its intended home market.
