Our smartphones can do a lot. They’re versatile enough that we nearly do not need any other devices to be able to function. However, there’s one thing that our smartphones simply can’t do well and that’s media consumption. Sure, most come with a nice set of stereo speakers these days, but since devices usually come in screen sizes of between 5-6 inches, you simply don’t get an immersive enough experience.
Well, if portable content consumption is something you’re into, you’ll want a tablet. And Huawei might just have the best one for you yet. Meet the Huawei MediaPad M3.
The key thing about media consumption on the go is, of course, portability. You’ll need something that’s compact enough to easily carry around, but not something too small because then you’d just use your smartphone.
Huawei’s MediaPad M3 hits this size-to-screen sweet spot with a beautiful 8.4-inch IPS display that’s portable but significantly larger than your average smartphone. That panel is also super crisp with a 2K 2560×1600 pixel resolution with a whopping 359 ppi. As a comparison, the iPad mini 4 with Retina Display pushes a resolution of 2048×1536 with a pixel density of 324ppi.
Huawei’s even included a few dynamic extras like ClariVu3.0 to enhance your viewing experience by automatically adjusting the level of contrast, backlight and brightness to reduce eyestrain. This panel can also go as low as 6 nits (with 4,096 levels of backlight) so you can comfortably view it in low-light conditions…though we wouldn’t recommend you do that very often.
Pushing all those pixels, the MediaPad M3 comes packing some serious specs. It’s got a flagship-level Kirin 950, Octa-core processor that’s well-known for being powerful but also power efficient. Mated to that is 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM, and either 32GB or 64GB of internal storage. If you need more for your movies and stuff, you can further expand it with a microSD card — the MediaPad M3 will take those with capacities up to 128GB. The MediaPad M3 also supports USB On-The-Go, which makes it handy to transfer documents, files and photos.
Going along with a gorgeous display, you’ll need really good sound quality too — and that’s hard to find on a mobile device. On the MediaPad M3, however, Huawei has collaborated with renowned audio company Harman Kardon to ensure that the tablet has uncompromising Hi-Fi sound quality.
This spectacular audio is delivered via Harman Kardon certified dual speakers — that’s a pair of 1W, 13mm x 18mm stereo speakers — powered by the Smart PA chipset to deliver a refined audio experience across the frequency range. The MediaPad M3 also features a Hi-Fi AKM chipset so it can output 192 kHz/24-bit audio standard for exceptional tablet audio performance.
It also features Huawei’s own Super Wide Sound (SWS 3.0) technology for an immersive listening experience. This technology even automatically differentiates between music and videos to deliver the right multimedia format for exceptional audio quality whether you’re in portrait or landscape.
Internally, the MediaPad M3 is a force to be reckoned with. Externally, this tablet isn’t messing around either. It’s got a beautiful metal shell that’s ergonomically designed to give you excellent feel-in-hand as well as a high screen-to-body ratio of 84%. This body is crafted out of aerospace-grade aluminium so it’ll feel sublime in your hand while remaining light for long movie marathons.
And you’ll be able to binge content because the MediaPad M3 comes with a large 5,100 mAh battery that Huawei says can last up to 11 hours of Full HD video playback on a single charge. More interested in gaming? Well, this tablet can go on for up to 6 hours playing 3D games. Music? That’s rated at up to 45 hours of playback on a single charge.
As much as a tablet must be secure, it should also be convenient to access. With the MediaPad M3, you’ve got a front-mounted fingerprint scanner that’ll let you unlock the device in less than a second (0.47mili seconds, to be precise). It’s also not just a fingerprint scanner because it can also double as a navigation point for your tablet — a single short tap will bring you back while a long touch will get you to the home screen. You can also swipe left or right to bring up the recently used apps.
All-in, this MediaPad M3 is certainly a fantastic tablet. It’s powerful, secure, has a beautiful screen, a gorgeous body and fantastic audio. If you’re looking for a brand new tablet to binge content on, look no further. The tablet is priced at RM1,699 for the 32GB variant while the 64GB version will retail for RM1,999. The MediaPad M3 is available at all Huawei stores and authorised dealers nationwide so hurry on over to one and snap this puppy up!
