Probably the smallest Game Boy in the world

When someone says “portable gaming console” I bet even they weren’t expecting this! Yup, that’s a tiny, tiny Game Boy. It’s small enough to fit on your keychain, but it’ll do much more than look pretty.

It actually works.

This little contraption was developed by Jeroen Domburg and was designed to fit on a keychain. I don’t know about you but I think he succeeded. Jeroen talked about his creation at the 2016 Hackaday SuperConference.

According to Jeroen, the Game Boy was made using a 3D printer, an ESP32 microcontroller and a tiny colour LED screen. With it being this small, it clearly won’t take your usual Game Boy cartridges. Instead, the device downloads games from a network and then boots them via an onboard emulator.

From Jeroen’s demo, the Game Boy does seem to play very well. He also says that despite how tiny the buttons, it actually isn’t as bad to play with as you might think.

But making just a tiny Game Boy to play Game Boy games wasn’t enough for Jeroen. So what’s next? Well, the Witcher 3 obviously.

Well, when I say play, I mean it only in the most literal of senses.

What do you guys want think? Let me know in the comments below!
