HTC has revealed the Desire 650 in Taiwan. It’s a budget 5″ smartphone that comes with a unique double back design.
To add a more upmarket feel for an entry-level device, the Desire 650 gets a contrasting appearance at the back. The top half has a smooth surface while the bottom portion gets a ribbed texture for better grip. Spec-wise, it is quite a modest device. The front 5″ display is a TFT unit that pushes HD 720p resolution. For a more comfortable viewing at night, the screen also supports Night Mode which cuts down on blue light.
Under the hood, the Desire 650 runs on an unspecified Qualcomm Quad-Core processor (likely Snapdragon 400 series) that’s mated to 2GB of RAM and has 16GB of on-board storage which is expandable via microSD. For optics, it has a 13MP f/2.2 main camera while the front gets a 5MP f/2.8 shooter for selfies.
Despite being a budget device, the Desire 650 aspires to be big on sound. It has BoomSound audio and it supports Hi-Res Audio playback. Connectivity wise, it supports 4G LTE, 802.11n WiFi, Bluetooth and it comes with NFC.
Powering the Desire 650 is a rather small 2,200mAh battery and out of the box, it runs on Android 6.0 with Sense UI on top. For greater customisation, it also gets HTC Freestyle while lets you personalise the home screen beyond the usual grid pattern. The Desire 650 will make its debut in Taiwan next month and it is expected to be priced around US$170 (about RM758).
