DJI Mavic Pro and Osmo Mobile to be launched in Malaysia next week!

UPDATE: It’s up for pre-orders! Here are the details.

Before GoPro has a chance to launch their Karma drone in Malaysia, DJI looks to beat them to the punch by launching the Mavic Pro locally next week!

Based on the media invite, ECS — the official distributor of DJI in Malaysia — will be holding an event to launch the brand new DJI Mavic Pro on the 12th of October 2016. That’s next Wednesday!

For the uninitiated, the DJI Mavic Pro is one of the most fascinating drones in the market right now because of its sheer portability. With retractable wings, the Mavic Pro can be folded into a form factor that fits in your palm.

But, due to DJI’s technical wizardry, it also doesn’t lose any of the advanced features you’d find on their high-end Phantom 4 drone. These headline features include a 3-axis stabilised camera (with the same sensor as the Phantom 4) that’s capable of shooting 4K video, a 27 minute flight time, subject tracking, autonomous landing, obstacle avoidance and stability indoors without GPS.

What’s more, you can stream crisp 1080p footage to your smartphone via the controller (which is also super tiny) from up to 7km away. Of course, if you’re not interested in the controller, you can also fly the Mavic Pro straight from your smartphone.

Read all about the Mavic Pro in our detailed announcement post.

Also set to be launched is the DJI Osmo Mobile handheld stabiliser. This nifty little device borrows DJI’s stabilisation technology from the DJI Osmo but replaces the camera with a mounting point for your smartphone.

This makes it a wonder for vlogs, Facebook Live shows and even some serious video recording considering how advanced smartphone cameras have become.

When we checked out the local launch of the GoPro HERO5 cameras, we asked FunSportz (GoPro’s official distributor here in Malaysia) about when the Karma would be arriving here. Their answer was something along the lines of “sometime next year but definitely not this year”.

I don’t know about you but that sounds pretty vague to me.

So, if you’ve been deliberating between a Karma and the Mavic Pro, does this make your decision much easier? Let us know in the comments below!
