Samsung to X-ray each Galaxy Note7 battery for safety

Samsung‘s Galaxy Note7 launch was far from the perfect affair. The handset was supposed to be the company’s most refined flagship smartphone ever — and it definitely had the beans to do so — instead, all anyone can think of right now is the Note7’s exploding battery.

That is, of course, for good reason because you definitely wouldn’t want your smartphone to blow up in your pants. Well, now it seems that the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards is putting their foot down to make sure that the replacement Note7’s won’t suffer the same fate.

According to a report by the Wall Street Journal, Samsung, and their battery supplies, have been instructed to perform X-ray scans on the new Note7 units to ensure that there are no faults with the new batteries. Besides that, after instruction from the South Korean government, Samsung has extended the refund period in their home country until the end of the month to give users more time to refund their devices.

If you’re a Note7 in Malaysia, however, a refund isn’t officially an option that is available to you. Instead, Samsung Malaysia will collect and replace your faulty Note7s with brand new ones on the 29th of September onwards. For more information on the replacement process, check out our detailed guide here.

To set your heart at ease, Samsung will also be giving the new Note7s special markers to differentiate the new Note7 from the old one.
