Following its recall announcement last Friday, Samsung Malaysia has finally revealed its replacement plans for Galaxy Note7 in Malaysia. The good news is that the replacement will done as a direct one to one swap.
Take note that this exercise only covers official Samsung Malaysia units that were sold during the pre-order period through Samsung and their authorised partners. This includes Celcom, Digi, Maxis, U Mobile, Yes, Courts and Senheng. The replacement program will start from 29th September onwards between 10:00AM to 10:00PM and affected customers are advised to return their units and exchange for a new Galaxy Note7 at their place of purchase.
The replacement would also require you to return the full box set which includes the provided fast charger, USB Type-C cable, headset and USB connectors. Samsung Malaysia also has mentioned on Facebook that they are offering 1-year screen crack protection (worth RM149) plus a free tempered glass with the new replacement unit. Before handing over your unit, you’re advised to perform a full backup to the cloud or through Samsung’s Smart Switch PC application.
So what should you do between now and 29th September? Since it affects 0.0024% of total units shipped, there shouldn’t be much to worry about especially if it works fine for you. However, since most incidents are related to charging, it is probably a better idea not to leave your phone charging unattended for now. Even if you don’t have any issues with your Galaxy Note7, we would still advise you to replace your device for better peace of mind.
UPDATE: According to Samsung Malaysia’s FAQ, They will still replace your Galaxy Note7 if you’ve lost some of your accessories and if your device has some cosmetic damages. For those who are currently outside Malaysia, you are urged to contact Samsung’s customer service at your current residing country. The new warranty period for the Note7 will start on the date when you receive the replacement unit. Also, here are 4 ways to identify if your Samsung Galaxy Note7 is brand new.
