Xiaomi’s answer to the MacBook Air is here

Xiaomi has finally revealed their entry into ultra-portable laptop market and this is it — the Mi Notebook Air.

This notebook comes in two different sizes — a 13.3-inch variant and a 12.5-inch variant — and is designed to be thin and light machines running Windows 10, that don’t skimp on the power.

For the 13.3-inch model, you get a Full HD display with thin bezels and edge-to-edge glass protection. Xiaomi demonstrates that the glass panel  is rated 7 in the Mohs scale of hardness so it doesn’t flex like a plastic one does when pressure is applied.

Inside, it is packing a sixth-generation Intel Core i5 processor with 8GB of DDR4 RAM and a 256GB PCIe SSD with dual SSD expansion (users can expand storage). It also gets an NVIDIA GeForce 940MX dedicated graphics card.

As far as ports are concerned, you get a USB Type-C port for charging, two USB 3.0 ports, one HDMI port and a 3.5mm audio jack. The entire laptop weighs 1.28kg and can last up to 9.5 hours on a single charge.

On the other hand, the smaller 12.5-inch model comes with an Intel Core M3 processor, 4GB of RAM and a 128GB SSD (also with the expandable SSD slot). The good news is that you still get a Full HD display with the edge-to-edge protective glass and the full-metal body.

The smaller unit gets a bump in battery performance, thanks to the more frugal processor, giving it up to 11.5 hours of life on a single charge. It’s also thinner and lighter than the 14.8mm 13.3-inch model, coming in at just 12.9mm and weighing 1.07kg.

If you’re thinking of getting the 13.3-inch model, it will be priced at CNY4,999 (around RM3,056), while the 12.5-inch model will set you back CNY3,499 (around RM2,140). Both variants will come in Silver and Gold colour options, and be available on Mi.com and on Mi Home stores in China from the 2nd of August onwards.
