The Galaxy Note7 may come with an even faster charger

The Samsung Galaxy Note7 is launching in 2 weeks time and now we get a glimpse of its purported new charger. When Samsung introduced its first fast charging tech with the Galaxy Note 4, their adaptive fast charger was rated to do 0-50% charge in 30 minutes on a 3,220mAh battery. As battery capacity grew for newer smartphones, Samsung would need something faster to cut down on charging times.

According to a post on Weibo, the Galaxy Note7 will come with a newer Adaptive Fast Charging that pushes higher voltage than its current chargers. As pictured above, it offers 3 voltage options – 5.0V with 2A, 9.0V with 1.67A and a higher 12.0V with 2.1A. As a comparison, the current Samsung Adaptive Fast Charger has the first two options.

Interestingly, the charger itself uses the full sized USB Type-A instead of USB Type-C. This allows you to charge other existing devices with your own micro USB cable. There’s no indication if this is a Qualcomm QuickCharge 3.0 certified charger and we are also not sure if it would be bundled for both Exynos and Snapdragon variants of the Galaxy Note7. The new Galaxy Note will be Samsung’s first smartphone to support USB Type-C.

With 12V output, you could possibly use this to charge those massive 20,000mAh powerbanks (that supports higher voltage) which usually take ages on a standard 5V 2A power brick. Despite the advancements of fast wireless charging, nothing beats the good old cable. The Galaxy Note7 launch is happening on 2 August 2016 and you can catch their live stream at 11.00PM.
