vivo shot for the moon with their latest flagship smartphone, the Xplay 5, when they announced that it would come with a whopping 6GB of RAM. At the time, it was more than any other smartphone in the world, so naturally it drew some attention.
Now, you can get your hands on one of vivo’s most powerful flagship smartphones yet, but the price might shock you.
Local grey importer DirectD is now selling the Xplay 5 on their website and it will retail for a whopping RM2,999. That said, the Xplay 5 does pack some flagship-level specs.
It’s got a 5.43-inch Quad HD curved display on the front which looks a lot like the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge’s panel. Inside, it’s powered by a Snapdragon 820 quad-core processor mated to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.
For camera optics, it gets a 16MP primary camera with an f/2.0 aperture lens and PDAF. On the front, it sports an 8-megapixel selfie shooter with an f/2.4 aperture lens.
The smartphone also has a large 3,600 mAh battery and dual-SIM support. It will come running Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box.
If we’re looking purely at specifications versus price, the Xplay 5’s RM2,999 price tag isn’t that shocking considering the other flagship smartphones out there. It is shocking for Malaysia as vivo smartphones here aren’t usually this pricey, but this RM2,999 price tag is about RM300 more than the Chinese price of CNY4,288 (around RM2,660).
Do keep in mind that this is an imported smartphone (AP set), not the official Malaysian handset, so that would explain the premium price tag. Nevertheless, if you’re interested, you can head on over to the DirectD website and pick one up.
