Marshmallow for Android Wear is finally here: Brings gestures, audio and messaging support

If you own an Android Wear smartwatch, you’re going to be really happy that Google is about to rollout Marshmallow for your wrist companion. The big update will vastly change how you communicate through text and voice when using your Android Wear device.

Now thanks to the update, users will be allowed to have voice-to-text messaging if the smartwatches they use has a mic. This feature will extend to apps like Hangouts, Telegram, Viber, WeChat and WhatsApp.

Users will do so when utilising the “Okay Google, Send a *insert app name* message to *name of person*” command followed by their message. Texting on that small little 1-inch plus screen is going to be a nightmare so there’s nothing better than making use of the voice-to-text feature.

Even better, if you have a speaker on your Android Wear watch – like the Huawei Watch and the ASUS ZenWatch 2 (49mm) – you’ll be able to make calls over Bluetooth pairing. But that’ll be quite spy-ish and weird in public putting your watch to your ear. Privacy might be a big concern here with people easily being able to listen in on your “watch conversations”.

That’ll definitely take the cake, not including those times you’ve seen random people on the street talking to themselves only to realise there’s a Bluetooth headset hidden in their ear canal.

Google says the update will be rolling out slowly over the next couple of weeks. So stay tuned and constantly check your device to see if there’s a big file waiting for you to download.
