Windows 10 Mobile update for older Lumias gets delayed again

We feel really sorry for users on the Windows platform. First you guys have to put up with apps – even mainstream ones – that aren’t updated since God knows when then you have that small ecosystem of the Windows Store. Now on top of all that, it seems like that Windows 10 Mobile release for older phones isn’t coming this month.

This is based on a twitter exchange between a user and a French telco, Bouygues Telecom. In the conversation, twitter user NotCassim asks if Windows 10 Mobile will be rolling out to old Lumias. The thread continues by another user stepping in and saying that another rep from the same telco told him it will be by “late February”.

Microsoft has been rather mum on the subject but we’re sure they’re trying to strategise global recalls of the older-generation Surface Pros that have faulty charging bricks that supposedly catch fire in some instances.

Microsoft already delayed this release once before, as earlier reports claimed that they’ll be releasing the big software update in mid-January. That has passed without a peep. You can expect Redmond to give a crap about the existing Lumias in the market, cause they’re sure to outnumber any sales of the current-generation Lumia 950 and 950 XLs that just hit our shores not too long ago.

As peeved as everyone is, we’re going to recap some of the devices that’ll receive the update:

Lumia 430
Lumia 435
Lumia 532
Lumia 535
Lumia 540
Lumia 635
Lumia 640
Lumia 640 XL
Lumia 735
Lumia 830
Lumia 930

Currently, we have the Lumia 950 XL and we’re going through the stages of the review. So far, it’s been “an experience” but we won’t spoil it for you. Be sure to check that out when we’ve done with it. If you’re too impatient, check out our hands-on with the latest flagship smartphones from Microsoft.

Till then, be patient Windows fans! We’re with you.
