Huawei looking into making laptops?

For all things about Chinese tech companies, we media bees usually rely on Weibo. Facebook is banned in China, so locals rely on Weibo for their social media needs. A source for both official and rumoured details on the latest Huawei and Xiaomi devices.

Weibo again comes to the rescue with rumours suggesting that Huawei will enter the PC segment with a device dubbed “MateBook” – cue raised eyebrows.

Following the success of the Nexus 6P, the Huawei name has been passed around worldwide and brand recognition has never been this good. It’s also because of the brand’s decision to start branching out into parts of Europe and launching the Mate S, honor 7, and Mate 8 among others in international markets.

They’re off to a good start with a showing at CES 2016 but is dabbling in too many areas going to bite them in the butt? Chinese brands have been ambitious and their fearlessness to put the best package at an affordable price is hard to beat.

Whether or not it’s ambitious to propose Huawei getting into the PC realm, they might just do it after all.

Emerging rumours have mentioned that a hybrid laptop will come out of Huawei’s factories soon. They claim that it’ll be a dual-booting Windows/Android hybrid but we’re not sure anyone would bother running the two OS’ in tandem. Some assume it’ll be a Chromebook running machine and that’s more likely than a dual-boot system.

Recently, their number one competitor Xiaomi released a tablet that runs either Windows or Android and this could easily be Huawei’s answer to the Mi Pad 2. They’ll meet other stiff competition too, with the likes of Microsoft, Google and Samsung also at the table.

It’s never easy using Google Translate to piece together a story as highlighted by Android Authority. There’s a good chance that the lines of communication got somewhat blurred while being passed down like Chinese Whisper.

Will Huawei release a laptop/hybrid in the near future? We’d like to think so.

Always remember to take rumours and leaks with a big helping of salt. In the midst of waiting to see more information come to light, let us know your thoughts on the prospect of Huawei making PCs.
