Who says you can’t teach an old Note new tricks?

Reports have begun to trickle in that Samsung have started to roll out Android 6.0 Marshmallow updates for a selected device in Europe. No, it’s not the Galaxy Note5 or any of the Galaxy S6 variants. Oddly enough, it looks like they’ve  begun rolling out Marshmallow updates to their old Note device, the Galaxy Note 4.

This comes as an editor from website Napidroid reports that his Galaxy Note 4 just received an Android 6.0 Marshmallow update over-the-air (OTA) and according to the folks over at SamMobile, the firmware (version N910FXXU1DOL3X) is legit. They also report that the new Marshmallow update brings Galaxy Note5 features, like the screen off memo that lets you start taking notes the moment you take the S Pen out of the slot when the screen is locked and the updated Air Command menu.

According to the Napidroid post, an improvement in performance is also noticeable in the Galaxy Note 4 device as well as the new updated application icons found on the newer TouchWiz skin that debuted on the Galaxy Note5 and the Galaxy S6 edge+. They also report that there doesn’t seem to be any other visual changes, nor did Napidroid reveal anything else about what was included in the Marshmallow update.

SamMobile suspects that this isn’t an official update and that it was someone at Samsung goofing up. We are inclined to believe that too, but we feel that this could also be that that particular editor has some kind of ties with Samsung and perhaps got the update pushed to his device earlier. Let’s face it, what are the odds that of all the people to get this update, an editor for a Hungarian Android website gets it first. This seems at least a little fishy to us.

Regardless, if this is really the beginning of the rollout (again odd that they’d start in Hungary) then this is great news for Galaxy Note 4 owners. A little bit of SoyaCincau.com advice though, don’t spend all day staring at your Galaxy Note 4 in the off chance that does end up to be just a blunder from the Korean manufacturer.
