UPDATE: The Galaxy Note5 and S6 edge+ have been launched in Malaysia. You can check out our Galaxy Note5/S6 edge+ price plan comparison from the big 4 telcos.
Samsung’s latest phablets the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 edge+ were launched last week, both offering 5.7″ Quad HD displays and 4GB of RAM. For Malaysia, both devices are expected to arrive sometime in early September and if you’re curious about its pricing, we can gather some clues from our southern neighbours.
The Galaxy Note 5 had went on sale in Singapore last Saturday, 15th August with two colour options Black Sapphire and Gold Platinum. Meanwhile the double edge Galaxy S6 edge+ will be available a week later on 22nd August with the same colour options.
Just like the Galaxy S6/S6 edge, the Singapore market has the option for multiple storage options with 32GB and 64GB available. For easy reference, we’ve compared the launch prices of the past Galaxy flagships in Singapore below, which are inclusive of GST. As expected, the Galaxy Note 5 is priced slightly higher than the Galaxy S6, while the Galaxy S6 edge+ is a notch higher than the S6 edge.
Based on the pricing in Singapore, we can roughly guess how much it will cost in Malaysia. With GST taking effect since April, you can expect to pay much more for the Note 5 compared to the previous RM2,499 price tag for the Galaxy Note 4. Assuming if GST was in effect back then, the Galaxy Note 4 would cost RM2,649 which is more than the Galaxy S6. Furthermore, the Note series is usually priced slightly higher than its compact Galaxy S series model.
We are guessing that the Galaxy Note 5 could be priced around RM2,699 while the Galaxy S6 edge+ hovering around RM3,199. Take note that this is just an estimate and Samsung Malaysia could price them differently considering our depreciating ringgit and both phablets will be coming with Dual-SIM slots.
