OnePlus 2 passes SIRIM certification. Could arrive in Malaysia soon

There’s a possibility that the OnePlus 2 might come to Malaysia ahead of its South East Asia Q4 scheduled release. Following its official announcement a few days ago, the purported 2016 Flagship Killer has just passed our Malaysian SIRIM certification with the model number A2003, similar to Singapore. Like the current OnePlus One, the new “2” will be distributed by Brightstar, and Maxis could be the exclusive telco as it was teased by them recently.

Just to refresh your memory, the OnePlus 2 gets a similar 5.5″ Full HD display as its predecessor but it boast better viewing with a 1500:1 contrast aspect ratio. Powering the device is Qualcomm’s top of the line Snapdragon 810 Octa-Core processor that’s mated with 4GB of LP-DDR4 RAM. In terms of storage, it comes in either 16GB or 64GB storage capacities which yet again is non-expandable with microSD.

For imaging it gets an improved 13MP f/2.0 camera that’s assisted with Optical Image Stabilisation and Laser Auto Focus, while the front gets a 5MP shooter. The battery of the OnePlus 2 is much larger now at 3,300mAh capacity but yet it still maintains a smaller footprint compared to the OnePlus One. Strangely the OnePlus 2 comes without NFC, which was included as standard in the previous model. The OnePlus 2 not only supports 4G LTE but it also offers dual-SIM support in Nano-SIM format.

Among some of the new features include a fingerprint scanner which claims to be more advanced and quicker to unlock compared to TouchID on iPhones. Also new is a USB Type C data and charging port, which lets you plug in the cable in any direction. For greater control for notifications, there’s a physical alert slider which lets you switch to either, full notification, priority and off all notifications. At time of release, it runs on their proprietary OxygenOS that’s based on Android 5.1, but it offers more controls over your app permissions and notifications.

In terms of price, the 16GB model is going for US$329 (about RM1,256) while the 64GB version is priced at US$389 (about RM1,485). As comparison, the current OnePlus One with 64GB is offered at RM1,199 exclusively through Maxis. As usual, the first batch of OnePlus 2 will be offered through an invite system and the reservation list has exceeded more than 1.2 million in just 4 days.
