Apple brings a new iPod touch, is the only iPod compatible with Apple Music

Following Apple‘s refresher for the iPod shuffle and iPod nano with new colours, the brand has also brought a brand new updated iPod Touch that sports a better camera, processor and has the option to house a whopping 128GB of storage space. But this doesn’t bode well for iPod lovers as the only member of the family that can access Apple’s new music service is just the Touch, with the possibility of leaving the rest to fade into obscurity.

The new iPod Touch has gotten an upgrade from its older A5 processor in favour of a newer 64-bit A8 chip which was also used in the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. The rear camera has been given an upgrade from 5 megapixel to 8 megapixels and storage starts at 16GB and goes all the way to 128GB should you need such massive storage. The device will be available in blue, pink, red, silver, space grey and a new gold shade.

With the vast majority of people using their phones to listen to their music, the relevance of dedicated music players are somewhat questionable now, especially with the prevalence of music streaming services. Granted there are still some brands producing said Mp3 and media players, but these have decreased dramatically as music streaming is now the norm and a larger percentage of people own smartphones. Its hard to say if the refresher will bring the devices back into popularity, but the Touch is still the cheapest entry into becoming an iOS user.

The new iPod Touch can be purchased here starting at RM 779 for the 16GB model and RM 1,599 for the high end 128GB model.
