Uber is now officially launched in Penang, allowing Penangites to enjoy affordable and reliable rides at the touch of a button. Basically now that the app covers the city, both potential drivers and users alike will get to experience the benefits of being able to grab safe and comfortable rides on the fly and for the drivers, maybe earn a bit of extra cash.
On top of that Uber is running a “Free Uber Week” that is running from now till next week (29th June to 5th July) all you need to do is use the promocode “UBERFREEWEEKPG” to activate the promotion.
For the uninitiated, Uber is a mobile platform that allows you to connect to the nearest driver when you need a lift. During registration, you would need to key in a debit or credit card since Uber is a cashless system. So after each ride, you can just hop off and the trip will be automatically charged to your card. So no more fumbling over small change and Uber will also email you an official receipt with complete breakdown of your trip.
The base fare starts at RM 2, with additional charges of RM 0.35 a minute plus RM 0.70 a kilometer. Here are what the fares could look like depending on where you need to go:

▪ Chulia Street to Gurney Drive: RM 8 – RM 11
▪ Pengkalan Weld to Island Glades: RM 10 – RM 14
▪ Tanjung Bungah to Minden Heights: RM 25 – RM 33
