Putting a front facing flash seems to be the next big thing with Apple having a possibility of doing so in their next iPhone. Now Samsung is jumping into the same bandwagon with its new Galaxy J5 and Galaxy J7, which both sporting a 5MP f/1.9 front camera like the Galaxy S6 that’s assisted with a front facing flash light.

The Galaxy J series which includes the Galaxy J1 is their entry-level line up which is positioned below the Galaxy A series. The new 2 models seem to step things up by offering larger HD screens and better specs underneath.

The Galaxy J5 comes with a 5″ HD 720p screen while the J7 gets a slightly bigger 5.5″ display but pushes the same HD 720p resolution. Details of the processor isn’t that clear and the J5 is likely to run on a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 410 processor with 1.5GB while the J7 could be running on a Snapdragon 615 Octa-Core processor that’s mated to 1.5GB as well. On-board storage is reported to be 16GB with the option to expand using microSD.

Despite being an entry-level device, the Galaxy J5 and J7 seems to offer the same selfie features as their flagship models. This includes 120 degree wide angle selfie and beautification mode for that extra touch up on the fly. For the back, it gets a 13MP shooter for both models. In terms of battery, the J5 gets a 2,600mAh unit while the J7 naturally gets more at 3,000mAh. It runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box and is available in either Black, White or Gold. So far it is announced for the Chinese market with the Galaxy J5 going for 1,398 CNY (about RM837) while the J7 is at 1,798 CNY (about RM1,076).

Late last year, Samsung is reported to be cutting down on its product line up to maintain profitability. With an extensive portfolio of Galaxy S, A, E and J series, it looks like business as usual for the Korean smart phone maker.
