The Xperia Z3+ is Sony’s updated flagship that’s thinner, lighter and faster

Sony is needing a new flagship for 2015 and most recently they had announced the Xperia Z4 which was exclusive to its home ground in Japan. For the rest of the world, Sony has finally announced its international variant that’s called the Xperia Z3+.

On the surface, it looks like nothing much has changed but the biggest difference is on the inside. While the overall design and size looks the same as the current Xperia Z3, the Xperia Z3+ is lighter at 144g (Z3: 152g) and thinner at just 6.9mm (Z3: 7.3mm). If you’ve been using Sony’s waterproof smart phones, the biggest welcome feature is its exposed microUSB port that’s waterproof without the annoying flap cover.

The front 5.2″ Full HD display remains unchanged and so is its pair of front facing stereo speakers. The main 20.7MP Exmor RS camera at the back is the same as the current Z3 but over at the front, it gets upgraded with a higher 5MP front shooter with 25mm wide angle lens.

In terms of processing power, the Xperia Z3+ gets the top of the line 64-bit Octa-Core Snapdragon 810 processor with 3GB of RAM. The storage has been increased from 16GB to 32GB on the Xperia Z3+ and yes, you are still able to expand with microSD up to 128GB. As expected with a slimmer body, the Xperia Z3+ is powered by a smaller 2,930mAh non-removabl battery (Z3: 3,100mAh) but Sony still claims that it could also last up to 2 days of average use on a single charge. Among all the flagships we’ve tested, the Xperia Z3 has one of the best battery life which gave us a full day of usage until midnight without needing a power bank.

The Xperia Z3+ comes in 4 colours – Black, White, Copper and Aqua Green and it is expected to go on sale globally next month in June. For more info, you can visit Sony’s Xperia Z3+ product page.
