Xiaomi’s Mi 4i is officially launched in Malaysia, offering “flagship” experience in an affordable and compact package. The Mi 4i was announced recently in India and it is Xiaomi’s first global phone, marking its seriousness of venturing beyond the Chinese market.
Priced at RM749, the Mi 4i will be available on the Malaysia Mi Store from 28th May 2015 starting 12pm. The local telcos will only be getting the phone in June.
It is currently one of the best smart phones you can get for under RM800 and it has dual-SIM with both slots supporting 4G LTE.
The Mi 4i may look similar to its more premium Mi 4 flagship but there are couple of notable differences. While the front 5″ Full HD display is similar, the Mi 4i gets a Sunlight Display tech which optimises the screen on the pixel level for better viewing in outdoor conditions. Instead of a metal frame, the Mi 4i gets a full polycarbonate body which currently is available only in White for Malaysia.
Under the hood you get Qualcomm’s 2nd generation 64-bit Octa-Core Snapdragon 615 processor that’s mated to 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. Like the rest of Xiaomi’s flagships, there’s no microSD slot which is a bummer for those who need more storage expansion.
To keep the Mi 4i running for long, it gets a 3,120mAh capacity battery, which is probably the largest in its class for a 5″ compact device. Despite having a larger capacity, the Mi 4i manages to be 12% thinner and 13% lighter than the 5″ Mi 4 that comes with a slightly smaller 3,080mAh battery. According to Xiaomi, the Mi 4i is rated to last 1.5 days with average use and it supports Quick Charge to juice it up quicker than usual.
For taking pictures, it packs a 13MP f/2.0 camera from Sony/Samsung with 5 element lens. Meanwhile selfies are taken with a front facing 5MP f/1.8 camera with 5 element lens that has a 80 degree wide angle. Connectivity wise, the Mi 4i supports our local 4G LTE bands including 1800MHz and 2600MHz as well as 802.11ac WiFi.
