Microsoft Surface 3 officially launched in Malaysia. An even compact tablet that can replace your laptop.

Microsoft today has officially launched its Surface 3 in Malaysia, its thinnest and lightest Surface yet. After a round of pre-orders, the Surface 3 will be available nationwide beginning 9th May across its network of retailers including Aone Plus, Harvey Norman, All IT Hypermarket, PC Image, Senheng/SenQ, SNS Network, ThunderMatch, Viewnet and Hello Station. While it is seen as an affordable version of the Surface Pro 3, it shares the same design language including its magnesium-alloy chassis.

Available in 2 options, the Surface 3 is priced from RM1,989 with 2GB RAM and 64GB of storage, while the higher-spec 4GB RAM and 128GB storage variant is offered at RM2,389. It gets a 10.8″ Full HD display and it runs on Intel’s new Atom x7 processor, which claims to be 80% as powerful as their Surface Pro 3’s Core i3 model. Since it runs on Intel Atom, the Surface 3 is fan-less, making it silent compared to its Surface Pro 3.

It also gets a pair of front facing stereo speakers, a 3.5MP camera at the front and a 8MP shooter at the back, which both are capable of shooting full HD 1080p videos. In terms of ports, it gets a single full sized USB 3.0, mini DisplayPort and a Micro USB charging port which allows you to charge with existing chargers and even powerbanks.

For expandable storage, there’s a microSD expansion slot located underneath the kickstand which opens up in 3 different angles. Overall, the Surface 3 is 8.7mm thick and weighs just 622 grams without the keyboard.

Out of the box, it runs on Windows 8.1 which is upgradable to Windows 10 and it also comes bundled with one year subscription of Office 365 Personal edition. The Surface 3 Type Cover keyboard is sold separately at RM479 while the Surface Pen is priced at RM189. Other accessories available include a Docking Station at RM769 and a screen protector at RM179. For a touch of personalisation, you get to choose between Black, Bright Blue and Red colours for the Type Cover Keyboard and the Surface Pen.
