The LG G4 is finally official

Looks like the leaks were true, and now that it’s been launched, LG’s G4 flagship smartphone is more than just a looker.

Under the hood, the LG G4 is packing a Snapdragon 808 processor with X10 LTE, 3GB RAM as well as 32GB expendable storage via a MicroSD slot. The G4 will also have a large removable 3,000mAh battery with built in quick charging and wireless charging as well as NFC support.  It also has a 5.5 inch Quad HD IPS display at 2560 x 1440 resolution and 538ppi and be running Android 5.1 Lollipop overlaid with LG’s UX 4.0 out of the box.

LG says the new screen has up to 20 percent greater colour reproduction on top of a 25 percent brightness increase and 50 percent greater contrast on top of employing Advanced In-Cell Touch (AIT) tech that combines the LCD and touch sensors into a single layer for better colours and touch sensitivity.

The camera combo for the G4 is looking rather good, with a 16 megapixel f/1.8 rear shooter with a 8 megapixel front camera with f/2.0 aperture, it’s quite obvious that they are trying to cater towards the selfie crowd as well. OIS 2.0 now works over three axes as opposed to the original two, which allows the camera to compensate in two degrees compared to the LG G3 who could handle only one.

The phone’s rear key lets you take selfies even when the display is off by double tapping it to shoot.

For those who like to work on the go, the LG G4 comes with Google Office pre-installed and Drive users get an extra free 100GB of Google Drive storage for two years. LG also says that Volkswagen vehicles can view a car friendly version of the G4’s interface with MirrorLink with integrated contacts, navigation and music when connected.

Aside from the luxury leather backing that has garnered the G4 lots of attention, the phone will also be shipping with a 3D “ceramic”  patterned back cover , and both will feature a slight curve which LG says helps with durability.

Global pricing and availability will be announced for their individual markets, with availability in Korea starting today. The phone will be available in Metallic Gray, Ceramic White and Shiny Gold for the ceramic covers, while it’s available in Black, Brown, Red, Sky Blue, Beige and Yellow for the Genuine Leather covers.
