OnePlus One now on open sale with no invitation required

It’s almost a year since the OnePlus One was announced with a bold claim of being a 2014 flagship killer. If you’re hoping for a new device, unfortunately there isn’t any being announced today. Instead OnePlus has announced that they are doing away with the invitation system and anyone can purchase a OnePlus One all day everyday in its available countries.

However for the upcoming OnePlus 2, they shared that it will be released first with an invitation system. OnePlus explained that like any new product, there are risks especially when they are selling devices with very thin margins. With the invitation system in place, they can mitigate such risks and eventually they will open up its sales once the product reaches maturity.

As an added bonus, they are giving a special 24 hour discounted sale on one of their accessories picked by their resident Shiba Inu. As selected, the OnePlus Flip Covers and Premium Screen Protectors will be sold at 75% discount. The promotions are only applicable in USA/Canada, the European Union, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.

For Malaysia, the OnePlus will be available starting 22nd April and Maxis will be the exclusive telco partner. According to OnePlus, there’s no invite system and the One will also be available for purchase without contract from Maxis.
