Nokia might just sell off HERE in favour of focusing on it’s networks

HERE, Nokia‘s mapping service might be in danger of getting the boot in favour of the Finnish company focusing directly on their networks as opposed to the app. According to Bloomberg, Nokia is interested in improving their wireless network as well as their credit rating, having already reached out to potential buyers including Uber Technologies Inc. and a handful of German carmakers have shown interest in the app.

The HERE app is estimated to be valued at about 2.1 billion euros, which means it has lost quite a bit of value since it was bought by Nokia from Navteq for 8.1 billion euros in 2008. Nokia only has three businesses left after selling their phone division to Microsoft and it’s networks division currently makes about 90% of it’s total revenue. There’s a high chance that Nokia will sell the service as they have more or less gotten out of the mobile market but it would be interesting to see who snaps up HERE next.
