Ditch the Wires, free your device: Why your Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 edge should be cable free

This post is brought to you by the Samsung Galaxy S6 & Galaxy S6 edge – Created from the ground up, defines What’s Next.

We’ve all had that moment where we have had to reach to the depths of our bag or dig around a messy table to find the business end of a charging cable, to find the much needed electric noodle entangled in itself.

But what if you could totally ditch the wires?

Less hardware is more

Previously you would have still needed a separate wireless charging back cover plus a charging pad to make this happen, but Samsung has ditched this entirely in favour of sticking it directly into the phones themselves.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge has inbuilt wireless charging with fully embedded WPC (Wireless Power Consortium) and PMA (Power Matters Alliance) certified wireless charging standards; which puts them at a different standard compared to all the cable dependant smartphones out there.

Of course, the engineers over at Samsung didn’t want to cut corners on power or add to the bulk of the new devices so the wireless charging coil needed to be as small as possible to keep the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge as skinny as can be.

The smaller the better

If you want to get technical, the component is just 0.27mm thick, 1/3 the thickness of the same part present in the Samsung GALAXY S5’s wireless charging cover; or in other words, so fine that you’re not even aware it is there. They’ve also added two extra layers of magnetic shielding to keep leakages at bay so it’s completely safe.

So do you have to get an official wireless charging pad? Not necessarily, as the aforementioned wireless charging capabilities will also work with any wireless pad that meets WPC, PMA standards and any wireless charger with Qi should work fine too. This is also thanks to Samsung’s efforts increase efficiency and minimize the involved charging hardware components.

Did you know that Samsung and IKEA are working together to make wireless charging more accessible? By incorporating wireless charging technology into furnishings like lamps, bedside tables and desks, you effectively can have a charging spot in any part of your house. Convenient!

Charging up a storm

Everyone has a busy schedule right? And our devices are usually such energy vampires that we can barely spare the time to get a good charge going, and if you forget that’s the end of you.

The Galaxy S6 and S6 edge have that covered, besides not having to tangle with your cables, they charge a good 1.5 times faster than their predecessor. Based on Samsung’s own internal tests, you can get up to an average of four hours of usage from a quick 10 minutes charge. This is extremely useful when you are left with just a short time to refuel your phone.

With great power comes great responsibility

Having efficient hardware isn’t enough if there’s nothing to keep an eye on things. As such, the devices will have a Smart Manager application keeping tabs on your smartphone and apps to let you manage your juice more effectively.

Just a tap and you can easily manage battery usage and keep your Samsung smartphone frosty for longer; thanks to Samsung’s great innovations in charging technology.
