Honor 4X pre-order starts today. Priced cheaper than expected

When it comes to cheap and good phones, people usually think of Xiaomi but many don’t realise that Huawei’s Honor brand of phones offer very, very good value for money as well. The Honor 6 is a personal favourite of mine and the soon to be available Honor 4X is shaping up to be one hell of a bargain too.

Pre-order for the Honor 4X starts today and if you’re in the market for a cheap and good phone, you might not want to miss out on this and here’s why, for just RM619 PLUS GST, you get a 5.5-inch (720p IPS panel) device that packs an octa-core 1.2GHz Kirin 620 processor developed in-house by Huawei with 2GB of RAM and 8GB of on board storage that can be expanded with microSD. The Kirin 920 processor used in the Honor 6 chugs along smoothly even in the most demanding situations exhibiting almost no lag at all. Of course the 3GB RAM in the Honor 6 aided performance significantly but expect the Honor 4X to deliver an almost similar level of performance as well. I would, however like to have more on board memory. The 8GB available in the Honor 4X will be just enough for the OS and not much else.

The Honor 4X gets the same 13MP f/2.0 BSI rear camera developed by Sony which is the same as the Honor 6, and if the Honor 6 is any indication, you can expect the camera in the Honor 4X to be really good. For the selfie junkie, you a 5MP front camera. You also get dual-SIM support and 4G LTE.

Probably the most impressive highlight of the Honor 4X is its battery life. Huawei claims the Honor 4X boast a 72-hour battery life, from its build-in 3,000 mAh battery. To put that into perspective, the longest lasting phone we’ve ever tested is the Sony Xperia Z3 which lasted up to 2 days on a single charge. Huawei claims the Honor 4X lasts a day more than the Z3! We haven’t tested this claim yet and can’t vouch got the claim but, that is a very bold claim coming from Huawei and if its true, it will be very useful for a lot of users out there.

Out of the box, the Honor 4X runs on Android 4.4 with Huawei’s nice to look at but sometimes not so nice to use, EMUI 3.0 skin. In terms of design, the Honor 4X looks like a smaller version of the Huawei Ascend Mate 7 which is pleasing albeit generic.

Once again the Honor 4X is available for pre-order starting from 3.08PM today at vmall.my for a very reasonable price of just RM619. This makes it cheaper that its closest rival, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G. Orders will ship out starting from April 18.
