Galaxy S6 and S6 edge official Singapore pricing gives best indication of how much the devices will cost in Malaysia

The Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge represents a new direction for Samsung. In direct response to customer complaints, the brand created its new flagship smartphone on a clean slate with a strong emphasis on premium build, quality materials and a timeless design. While the S6 and S6 Edge are the best build and most beautifully designed phones Samsung has ever created, the biggest question in everyone’s mind right now is, does all this goodness come with a hefty price tag.

Early information obtained from reliable sources within the industry seem to indicate that and now that Samsung has released the official pricing of the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge for Singapore, you might want to sit down before you ask, how much is the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge.

So are you ready for it?

The 32GB variant of the Galaxy S6, in Singapore, carries a recommended retail price of SG$998, while the more exotic dual-curved screen Galaxy S6 Edge, in 32GB guise, retails for SG$1,168. Before we proceed with the conversion, take note the electronic gadgets are generally cheaper in Singapore, around 10 – 15% cheaper, which means, you might be paying a bit more, when buying the devices in Malaysia.

After conversion, the 32GB Galaxy S6 is RM2,693 and the 32GB Galaxy S6 Edge is a whopping RM3,152!

Samsung got almost everything right with the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. The build quality, the quality of the materials, the design details and the feel of the device is the best that Samsung has ever produced but it now also looks to be two of the most expensive devices that Samsung has produced. The S6 duo look exquisite and are just delightful to hold in my hand but I’m not sure if people are ready to pay over RM3,000 for it, especially when we are in a time where people are more cost conscious than ever and there are genuinely viable, cheaper alternatives to the S6 and S6 Edge. Granted, these cheaper flagship phones from China may not be able to be the S6 and S6 Edge when it comes to delivering the whole package, for a price conscious market, these Chinese brands may make more sense — I’m not saying they are better but they do offer great value for money.

I’ll admit, I like the S6 and I am lusting over the S6 Edge. Yes, everything in the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge is cutting edge. You get the best display, the best processor, the best memory, the best camera — it’s almost the best phone you can get but I am finding it very, very, very…hard to justify paying an equivalent to a fresh grad’s salary for a phone.
