The Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge are probably going to be the most expensive phones Samsung ever sold

Samsung is definitely moving its new Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge flagships up a notch on the premium scale. Unfortunately that also means you would need to fork out more for their latest models which will be launched this week in Malaysia.

According to a source that tipped Lowyat.net, the Galaxy S6 will be priced at RM2,599 in Malaysia, while its double-curve display Galaxy S6 edge would carry an even higher price tag of RM3,099. This more or less matches its pricing in other parts of the world where the Galaxy S6 edge is priced higher than the already premium iPhone 6 Plus.

Well, this is more or less expected considering it offers 32GB storage as its base model (up from 16GB previously) and they have gotten rid of its plasticky build with the use of metal and glass. Furthermore with the introduction of GST, it does add up.

As comparison, the Galaxy S5 was launched at RM2,399 with 16GB of storage while the current Galaxy Note 4 is priced at RM2,499 during launch. Furthermore, its Galaxy Note Edge with a more functional curved display is priced slightly lower than the Galaxy S6 edge at RM2,999.

The biggest question mark is whether Samsung could hold better value for its Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge, especially when it is on a two flagships per year cycle. As comparison, Apple only releases their latest iPhones once a year and they seem to fare better in terms of resale value.

The last time Samsung sold a flagship phone at RM2,599 was 5 years ago, when it introduced the original Galaxy S. That came with a low 4″ WVGA display and even the main camera doesn’t have a LED flash light. As for the Galaxy S6 edge, would you pay RM500 more for a double curve screen? Essential both S6 models are the same underneath apart from the display and a slightly bigger capacity battery.
