Maxis teases incoming Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge

The Samsung Galaxy S6 will be released globally starting 10th April and it is also coming soon to Malaysia. Maxis has started teasing the device with the hashtag #NextisNow. To confirm this further, both the Galaxy S6 (SM-G920F) and Galaxy S6 edge (SM-G925F) have also recently passed our local SIRIM certification.

Like previous devices, you can expect Maxis to bundle the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 edge with its MaxisOne Plan. In terms of pricing, we would expect an upward trend from its previous launch prices. The Galaxy S6 with a minimum of 32GB storage is likely to cost more or about the same as its current Galaxy Note 4 that’s priced at RM2,499. Referring to some overseas pricing, the unique Galaxy S6 edge with a double curve edge display could cost more than the iPhone 6 Plus.

To recap on the devices, the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 edge are essentially the same device underneath. Both gets a 5.1″ Quad HD Super AMOLED display that pushes 2560×1440 pixels resolution. Powering the new flagship is their very own Exynos 7420 (Cortex A-57 @2.1GHz + Cortex A-53 @ 1.5GHz) 64-bit Octa-Core processor that’s mated to 3GB of DDR4 RAM. The on-board storage uses a faster USF 2.0 solution which claims to be 30% faster than standard eMMC 5.0 storage. Overall, the new flagship not only looks good but it is quite a stellar performer as well. Unfortunately there’s no expandable memory and there’s a choice of 32GB, 64GB and 128GB storage capacities which is subject to respective markets.

For taking pictures, it gets a 16MP camera with Optical Image Stabilisation along with a brighter f/1.9 lens. The front gets a higher resolution 5MP camera which also has a f/1.9 lens and Auto Realtime HDR mode. To capture epic moments quicker, you can bring up the camera app at anytime even while in sleep by simply double tapping on the home button. While everything looks tip top and upgraded from the last model, the Galaxy S6 unfortunately lacks water resistance that came with the Galaxy S5. It appears that Samsung is reserving all that weather proof feature for its “Active” variant that is expected to be announced later.

The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge also marks their first flagship device that comes without a removable battery in pursuit for a more premium unibody look. The Galaxy S6 gets a 2,550mAh capacity battery while the Galaxy S6 edge is slightly more at 2,600mAh. According to Samsung, the combination of its processor, storage and software tweaks have made the Galaxy S6 more efficient and it is rated to last just as long as the Galaxy S5. Fast Charging is present which can juice up from 0-50% in 30 minutes and for better convenience, the Galaxy S6 also supports wireless charging natively.
