Over the years Samsung’s Super AMOLED display tech has been improving with leaps and bounds, with the Galaxy Note 4 being proven to have the best display in the mobile world last year by DisplayMate.
The new Galaxy S6 is another showcase for Samsung’s display technology and it’s more than just a curved screen with a higher resolution. DisplayMate have put the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge through a rigorous battery of testing to see if it can top last year’s Galaxy S5 and the Note 4.
The Galaxy S6 and S6 edge are 5.1 inch Quad HD (2560 x 1440) displays with a pixel density of 577 ppi, with the only technical difference between the two being the flexible plastic materials used to make the S6 Edge’s display bendy.
In colour accuracy tests to check colour reproduction, tests found that the Galaxy S6’s basic screen provides the most accurate image colors of any smartphone or tablet. The measured Absolute Color Error for the Galaxy S6 is just 1.6 Just Noticeable Color Difference, tied with the Galaxy Note 4.
Samsung’s latest flagship also measured a 20 percent improvement in display power efficiency over the Galaxy S5; consuming only 0.65 watts over 0.82 watts at 50 percent brightness as well as being more readable in high-ambient light situations at 170 which is the highest DisplayMate has ever measured from any mobile device.
DisplayMate also notes that the Galaxy S6 not only has over four times the amount of pixels as the iPhone 6 but significantly higher Absolute Colour Accuracy, lower power consumption and better viewing angles too, with increased pixel density over the Galaxy S5. As a final word, both the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge have the same level of performance, which makes them both industry leading displays in the smartphone market.
