Pebble is possibly counting down to a new smart watch next week

The Apple Watch will start shipping in a couple of months time and Pebble isn’t going to rest on its laurels.

On Pebble’s official page, they have started a countdown timer to what appears to be the announcement of a new watch. According to some sources, the new Pebble will be thinner and comes with a colour e-paper-like display. In terms of features, it may come with a built-in microphone and Pebble is said to be developing a watch with a heart rate sensor, but that’s likely to be released much later.

With a week long battery life being the key differentiation, don’t expect a high resolution LCD display but perhaps something like Qualcomm Toq’s Mirasol colour display. Word also has it that Pebble will be introducing a whole new software platform that’s developed by the team from webOS. Can the new watch stand against the newer smart watches from Android Wear and Apple? We’ll find out more when the timer ticks to zero.
