If you’ve been hankering for some extra space on your Google Drive, you’re in luck.
Google is giving out a free and permanant 2GB bump to your max storage in return for doing a Security Checkup for your Drive. This is in regards to Safer Internet Day and you’ll only get the extra storage if you complete the checkup by the 17th of February. If you’ve been repeatedly maxing out your cloud storage, we recommend you grab it while you can.
While Drive files are already encrypted and protected, the goal of this is to ensure that you’re making the most out of it. In a nutshell what the checkup does is it lets you review recent sign-in activity, confirms the apps and devices that access account information as well as ensures your account recovery information is current in the event of a hacking or illegal access.
After a successful checkup, you will see three green checkboxes that confirm your eligibility for the additional storage and have undertaken the steps for better online security.
Users who have done the check will be granted the storage around the 28th of February, but users who are using Google Apps for Work and Google Apps for Education aren’t eligible for the extra storage but are still encouraged by Google to do the check anyway.
