Want to have a full Windows laptop experience but only got a budget for a tablet? The ASUS EeeBook X205 is probably the low cost solution that you’re looking for. If you can remember, ASUS was one of the pioneers of the netbook with the introduction of its EeePC. Now in 2015, the EeeBook is kind of a rebirth of the Netbook but it gets more powerful hardware and with an even lower price tag.
Announced during IFA 2014, the EeeBook 205 comes with a 11.6″ HD display that pushes 1366×768 pixels resolution and it runs on a capable Intel Atom Quad-Core 1.33GHz Z3735 Processor (Bay Trail-T) with 2GB of RAM. You’ll also get a decent full sized keyboard with a large track pad for easier scrolling.
You have a choice of either 32GB or 64GB on-board storage which can be expanded using microSD slot up to 64GB extra. At the sides, you’ll get 2x USB 2.0 ports, a micro HDMI port, mic-in and headphone-out jacks. Its 38 Whrs battery is rated to last up to 12 hours on a single charge. Overall, it is pretty lightweight at only 0.98 kg and it has a thickness of just 17.5mm. There’s also a VGA camera upfront for video conferencing.
Out of the box, it runs on Windows 8.1 with Bing and it comes with a year subscription of Microsoft Office 365. If storage isn’t enough, the EeeBook X205 comes with 1TB of OneDrive along with 500GB of ASUS WebStorage. That’s a total of 1.5TB on the cloud.
The EeeBook X205 is priced at just RM699 for the 32GB model and RM799 for the larger 64GB capacity version. It comes in White, Gold and Dark Blue colours and it will be sold through ASUS authorised dealers in Malaysia by early March 2015. With a huge cloud storage, decent full fledged Windows desktop experience and a low price, the EeeBook X205 is looking like a better alternative to Google’s Chromebook.
