Huawei is expecting a lot of demand for bigger phablets. After introducing its Ascend Mate 7, they have now officially announced the Ascend GX1. It also gets a large 6″ display but it pushes a lower HD 720p (1280×720) resolution instead of Full HD. Considered as an affordable 6″ phablet, the Ascend GX1 is priced at only 1,590 CNY (about RM893) on China’s VMall.

As expected with a lower price tag, it runs on a mid-range 64-bit 1.2GHz Quad-Core Snapdragon 410 processor with 1GB of RAM. There’s 8GB of expandable storage that comes with a microSD slot. It also has an 8MP main camera, 2MP front facing camera, NFC, dual-SIM card slots and 4G LTE connectivity. To keep the lights on, the Ascend GX1 comes with a large 3,500mAh capacity battery and it still maintains a reasonable 9.2mm thickness with a weight of 173 grams.

Unless you’re obsessed about having a bigger screen, you are better off with other options. Within the same price range, you could consider the Honor 6 that comes with a faster processor, more RAM and storage at RM999. In case you’re wondering, the high-spec Huawei Ascend Mate 7 with 3GB of RAM and 32GB storage is now available at RM1,999.
