Nokia C1: A new Android smart phone is reported to be coming soon

Discontinued Nokia X pictured

Nokia hasn’t given up on devices after its post-Microsoft acquisition. After recently introduced its Nokia N1 tablet, the Finnish company is speculated to be working on an Android smart phone as well.

Dubbed as the Nokia C1, the new device will also be manufactured by Foxconn, similar to the N1. It is done through a licensing agreement since Nokia can’t directly manufacture devices until 2016. The hardware is said to be using an Intel processor with 2GB of RAM and it comes equipped with a 5″ display that could possibly do HD 720p.

For taking pictures, it is expected to carry a standard 8MP main shooter at the back while selfies are taken with a decent sized 5MP front camera. Just like the Nokia N1, the C1 will be running on their own Z-Launcher and it should be on the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop.

Is Nokia able to succeed in its 2nd attempt at an Android smart phone? With a decent hardware and an intuitive launcher, the answer might be yes. In the previous Nokia X, it ran on a forked Android OS with a sluggish interface that tries to mimic Windows Phone live tiles. With the rise of cheaper Android phones with more compelling hardware, the Nokia X project was canned after 6 months.

So far there’s no pricing and availability details yet for the Nokia C1 and it should be announced sometime in Q1 2015.
