This device lets you charge your phone using a 9 volt battery

If you’re a smartphone user, you’re constantly aware of the nearest power point and you’ll be lugging around bigger and bigger battery packs to make sure your device has enough juice to take you to your next selfie.

But sometimes, you don’t have access to a power point and your 1,000,000 mAh battery pack is all used out, so what do you do?

Two geeks from Australia think they have the answer and it’s called Plan V. The idea couldn’t be any simpler, create a device that uses readily available 9 volt battery to power your device. Plan V works pretty much like a car jumper cable. You simply connect a 9 volt battery to the Plan V device and then hook it up to your phone.

Weighing in at only 7 grams – Plan V is designed small enough to sit on your keyring. No cables and no bigger than a typical house key.

But don’t expect a 9 Volt to charge your phone to the brim. The brains behind Plan V says that you can get 4 hours of talk time with the device. We’re guessing that would be about 2 hours on data. less if you’re on LTE. But the good thing is that you can just pop in another 9 volt to charge your device further.

The people behind Plan V is currently looking for funds to take the project to the next step. You can get the full details of the project here. There are asking for AU$30k and so far have gotten AU$6.5k in pledges with 26 days to go. Currently Plan V is available for micro USB only. So if you’re using a iPhone, you’ll have to use an adapter.

Overall, Plan V is a cool idea and if it’s cheap enough, it’ll be good to have a few around in case of emergencies.
