During the launch of Xiaomi’s Mi 4 smart phone, they had also introduced its Mi Band. This is a simple fitness tracker that’s ridiculously priced at 79 CNY (about RM43).
For those hoping to get one, the Mi Band has already passed its necessary certifications in our local SIRIM database. However we think that Xiaomi would take a while to bring this to market considering the Redmi Note 4G which was certified a while back would be only available sometime next month. We also reckon that their highly sought after Mi Router with 1TB hard drive would take its time as well.
To refresh your memory, the Mi Band aims to be the distruptor in the smart fitness category. Although it is cheap to buy, it still gets IP67 water resistance and a tiny 45mAh battery that’s rated to last 30 days. It connects via Bluetooth 4.0 and it currently supports Android devices. iOS device support is said to be coming in December.
Functionality wise, it is quite basic but it gets the job done. It lacks an LCD display but it gets tiny LED notification lights as well as built-in vibration for alerts. If all you need is something to track your steps and sleeping patterns, you really can’t complain for something that costs under RM50.
