Sony’s SmartBand Talk has arrived at RM579

Sony’s SmartBand Talk is finally here in Malaysia with the price tag of RM579. Announced during IFA 2014, the SmartBand Talk is Sony’s new fitness tracking band which comes with a power efficient e-ink display and the ability of making voice calls via speaker phone. Like its latest Xperia Z3 smart phone line up, it gets IP68 rated water and dust resistance.

The front 1.4″ black and white display is curved and pushes a resolution of 296×128. The screen isn’t touch enabled so navigating around is done by tapping or pressing the buttons located at the sides. While the display isn’t as glamorous as Samsung’s Gear Fit (priced at RM599), the SmartBand Talk claims to last up to 3 days of usage and up to 1 hour of talktime with its 70mAh battery thanks to its frugal display.

Apart from making calls, the SmartBand Talk also recognises voice commands as well. For a full always-on activity tracking, it works together with Sony’s own Lifelog app which tracks your fitness and sleep. Charging is done via microUSB which is neatly tucked away underneath a flush cover on the band.

The SmartBand Talk is compatible with Android devices running 4.4 and above. It is super light at just 24 grams and it connects via NFC and Bluetooth.
