Pebble gets always-on activity tracker and reduced pricing

The Pebble smart watch which has been a pioneer in smart wearables has gotten a major upgrade. With more competition from Android Wear and also from the Apple camp, they have managed to stay competitive with its wide selection of apps and a fantastic battery life that could last for a week in a single charge.

Today they have released a new software update which allows the Pebble smart watch to monitor your fitness activities in the background even while it is showing other watch faces. The activity tracking is made possible with 3rd party apps such as Misfit, Jawbone, and Swim.com which can be downloaded from the Pebble appstore.

Also new is QuickLaunch which lets you launch preset apps or features by long pressing the up or down button. You can enable this on the watch under settings. The new features including the Activity Tracking capability are available with the latest Pebble 2.6 update which is out now.

For those who are interested to get a Pebble smart watch, they have slashed its price too with the original Pebble going for US$99 (down from US$149). If you prefer something more classy, the Pebble Steel is now US$199 (originally US$249). It can be ordered directly at getpebble.com and they do ship to Malaysia for free.
