Sony Xperia M2 Aqua introduced with the highest waterproof rating for a smart phone

Sony is taking its waterproof credentials to the masses with the introduction of its Xperia M2 Aqua. Like the name suggest, this is basically the waterproof version of its current mid-tier 4G LTE smart phone, the Xperia M2 which recently has gotten its Android 4.4 KitKat update.

This is not just another water resistant phone as the Xperia M2 Aqua boast a higher IP68 rating, which is the highest currently for a smart phone. According to Sony, it can withstand being submerged below 1.5 meters of fresh water up to 30 minutes.

Spec wise, it gets the similar 4.8″ qHD display (960×540) as its non-Aqua model and it runs on a 1.2GHz Quad-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor that’s mated to 1GB of RAM. It also packs 8GB of on-board storage which is expandable with microSD.

The similarities continue with the same 8MP camera that shoots Full HD 1080p videos while taking selfies are handled by its VGA front facing camera. Juicing up the device is a 2,330mAh capacity battery which should probably last a whole day. Connectivity wise, it gets NFC as well as support for faster 4G LTE.
