HTC has announced its Butterfly 2, which is the international version of its J Butterfly smart phone. It will be available for the Asian market starting with Taiwan on 2nd September and followed by Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong and India.

In terms of specs, it is similar to its current HTC One E8 and One M8 with a 5″ Super Clear LCD 3 screen that does Full HD resolution while underneath it runs on a 2.5GHz Quad-Core Snapdragon 801 processor with 2GB of RAM. In terms of storage, there’s 16GB and 32GB capacity and it is expandable up to 128GB with microSD.

The camera is what makes the difference here. While it gets a polycarbonate body, the back features a 13MP f/2.0 Duo Camera set up that comes assisted with a secondary 2MP shooter for Depth sensing. There’s also dual-LED flash for natural lighting while Selfies are handle by its wide angle 5MP BSI front camera.

The Butterfly 2 is also water and dust resistant with a IP57 rating, which can be submerged under water for 1 meter for 30 minutes. It also gets Boom Sound front stereo speakers which is further enhanced by JBL LiveStage. The battery on the Butterfly 2 is slightly bigger than its siblings with a 2,700mAh capacity battery.

Overall it weighs 151g and has a thickness of 9.99mm, making it thicker and heavier than the One E8 (9.85mm, 145g). The device also supports 4G LTE and has a single slot for Nano-SIM.

For Malaysia, hopefully it won’t take too long for HTC to bring it here especially when it has been spotted in our local SIRIM certification database.
