Gionee makes an even thinner smart phone at 5mm thick

Remember Gionee? Just a couple of months back they had introduced its Gionee Elife S5.5 which boast an incredibly slim profile of just 5.5mm. Now they have pushed the limits again as a new model was spotted that’s just 5.0mm thick. The discovery was found through TEENA, a certifications body similar to our very own SIRIM.

Apart from being super-thin, the new Gionee has been ultra light as well weighing at just 94.6 grams, which is pretty impressive considering the front packs a decent sized 4.8″ HD 720p AMOLED display. In terms of processing, it is mid-tier affair with a Quad-Core 1.2GHz processor, 1GB of RAM and 16GB of storage which is likely to be non-expandable.

It also packs an 8MP camera at the rear and a front 5MP shooter for selfie. Despite having a super slim body, they have managed to pack a 2,050mAh battery inside. As revealed by its markings at the back of the device, it also supports 4G LTE but with China’s own TD-LTE standards.

Looks like Gionee has also stolen the thinnest 4G LTE crown from the Oppo R3 which is 6.3mm thick. Out of the box, it will be running on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.

Would you rather have a mid-tier device for the sake of slimness? Most flagship devices today are incredibly slim at around 7-9mm. The biggest compromises on the Gionee are the specs and battery capacity.
