WWDC 2014: How to get the live stream, which live blogs to follow and what to expect

If you’re up for it Apple’s WWDC is happening tonight. Ok, not technically tonight it’s more like in the wee hours of tomorrow morning. Apple’s annual developer conference will kick off at 1am and if you have an iOS device or a Mac computer you can watch the future of Apple’s product roadmap unfold right in front of your very eyes via the official live stream here (you’ll need Safari 4 or later on OS X v10.6 or later; Safari on iOS 4.2 or later. Streaming via Apple TV requires second- or third-generation Apple TV with software 5.0.2 or later).

What can you expect from Apple at WWDC? Considering that the WWDC is a developers’ conference after all, it’s obvious that Apple will show off the future versions of its mobile and computer operating systems, so you will probably be seeing iOS 8 and and OS X 10.10 for the first time tonight. Whether you like it or not, expect to see OS X mimicking the overly simplistic look and feel of iOS to make the user experience between the two more seamless.

Along with the new version of iOS you can also expect improvements and new features applications like Siri and Apple Maps that will hopefully put the mobile OS on par in terms of features with its competitors.

Will we see the new iPhone tonight? We can’t say for sure but it doesn’t look like it, not for at least another couple of months.

Will Apple debut its wearable devices at WWDC? Don’t think so unless the iWatch — or whatever Apple’s wearable is going to be — works with mobile devices that’s not running iOS. The iWatch — if Apple is indeed making one — is almost certainly going to be a companion device for the iPhone and if this is indeed the case, Apple would want to unveil the iWatch and new iPhone together.

Are we going to see anything from Apple’s newest and biggest acquisition, Beats? Don’t think so, it’s too early for the two to have anything substantial to show.

Anything else? Well, to sum it up, expect tonight’s WWDC to focus on software with not much emphasis on really new hardware. Of course, we could be completely wrong so why don’t you come join us and let’s talk Apple tonight.
