By the numbers: LG G3 compared with today’s flagship Android smart phones

With the announcement of LG G3 this morning, we now have 2 flagship smart phones with Quad HD display. That’s of course before Lenovo launches its Vibe Z2 Pro with a larger 6″ screen. To find out how the LG G3 stacks up, we compared it with the Oppo Find 7/7a, OnePlus One, HTC One M8, Samsung Galaxy S5 and the Sony Xperia Z2.

In terms of specs, the LG G3 has very similar internals with the Oppo Find 7. Both are running on the latest Quad Core 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 processor and a similar 5.5″ Quad HD display with 538ppi pixel density. In its high-spec variant, the LG G3 also packs 3GB of RAM, 32GB of on-board storage and a 3,000mAh capacity battery as well.

The major difference is in the camera. While the LG G3 also packs a 13MP sensor from Sony, it uses the older IMX135 sensor instead of the newer IMX214 that’s found on the OnePlus One and Find 7/7a. Having said that, the LG G3 has an advantage of having an Optical Image Stabiliser (OIS+) and a Laser AF feature to capture moments quicker with less blur.

Dimension wise, the LG G3 is thinner, lighter and even narrower than the Oppo Find 7. It is just as thin as the OnePlus One at 8.9mm but manages to weigh just 149 grams, which is 4 grams more than the lightweight Galaxy S5 that comes with a smaller 5.1″ display. With a metallic back shell, the LG G3 looks quite premium with a similar looking finish as the HTC One M8.

It is a pity that we won’t be getting this in Malaysia through official channels but who knows, LG might just make a come back with their mobile business. Alternatively, we can only wait for our enterprising grey importers to offer the LG G3 locally. The folks at Samsung and HTC are not resting on their laurels as they are expected to introduce their new flagship devices with Quad HD display in the form of Galaxy S5 Prime and HTC One M8 Prime. If LG plans to win big, they better roll out as soon as possible as their rivals like Samsung are quick to go to market in multiple countries in just a short time.
