UPDATE: While Maxis claims to be the exclusive carrier for HTC phones in Malaysia starting with the One (M8), we’ve been informed that the same device is also available from U Mobile. Not only that, it appears that U Mobile is offering a better deal — the One (M8) can be had for as low as RM999 with no additional upfront payment if you opt for autobilling and monthly subscription cost is lower as well. Details here. Thanks for the tip vinc87!

###

The HTC One M8 will be available officially in Malaysia on the 8th May with the retail price of RM2,399. If you are thinking of getting it on contact, Maxis will be the exclusive telco partner where it can be yours from as low as RM1,399. As usual, it is offered on either SurfMore or TalkMore postpaid plans with a choice of either 12-month or 24-month contract duration.

The HTC One M8 bundled pricing from Maxis are as follows:

SurfMore 30 (1GB – RM30/month) 12 months – RM2,099
SurfMore 30 (1GB – RM30/month) 24 months – RM1,899
SurfMore 50 (2GB – RM50/month) 12 months – RM1,999
SurfMore 50 (2GB – RM50/month) 24 months – RM1,799

TalkMore 28 + 200MB (RM56/month) 12 months – RM1,999
TalkMore 28 + 200MB (RM56/month) 24 months – RM1,799
TalkMore 48 + 1GB (RM96/month) 12 months – RM1,899
TalkMore 48 + 1GB (RM96/month) 24 months – RM1,599
TalkMore 78 + 3GB (RM146/month) 12 months – RM1,799
TalkMore 78 + 3GB (RM146/month) 24 months – RM1,399

Strangely the higher SurfMore 75 plan with 5GB data has been omitted. During sign up, there’s an upfront payment between RM100 to RM600 required which will be rebated back to your monthly bill. If you’re interesting to get one, it will be available starting 8th May at all Maxis Centres and Maxis Exclusive Partners nationwide. As a special promotion, they are bundling free Dot View case worth RM149 for the first 1,000 customers. The HTC One M8 also marks Maxis long term commitment to be the exclusive telco to offer HTC smart phones. As a result, customers are promised better warranty claims turn around time through Maxis outlets nationwide.

To recap, the HTC One M8 comes with a 5″ Full HD display and runs on the latest Quad-Core 2.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor that’s mated to 2GB of RAM. The unit which we are getting in Malaysia is the 16GB version which is expandable using microSD up to 128GB. In terms of camera, it retains the similar 4MP Ultrapixel camera but it now comes with a Duo camera set up for a instant depth-of-field effect.

Apart from having an aluminium build, the One M8 also stands out with its improved Boom Sound front stereo speakers which is said to be 25% louder than the previous HTC One. To get to know the HTC One M8 better, you can read our first impressions over here.
