Xiaomi, a Chinese smart phone brand that gained attention for its competitive smart phones will be coming to Malaysia this year. Its CEO Lei Jun had made the announcement in a press conference in Beijing.

They will push sales mainly on large developing markets such as India, Brazil, Russia and Mexico. This is followed by Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and Turkey as part of its plan to increase presence internationally.

Xiaomi is setting a goal of increasing its sales fivefold to 100 million units in 2015. After its success in China with its RedMi and Mi 3 handsets, they had recently expanded to Singapore which sold out success. Its Redmi which is priced under RM500 was sold out in 8 minutes while its high-end Mi 3 did better in just 2 minutes.

Demand is definitely strong but it appears that our Singapore neighbours are finding it tough to get their hands on one. If you’re interested, online retailer IPMart is selling grey imported units over here.
